Photographer
I
have lived in Stevens Point, a small town in Central Wisconsin all my life except for my tour in the US Air
Force. It was while stationed in Viet Nam that I bought my first good
camera-- a Canon FT. I have been into photography ever since.
I became interested in wildlife photography about 1990 because of the challenge it offered. I photograph only non-captive wildlife in their own habitat, although that includes backyard animals. All the images on this website were taken in just four counties (Portage, Marathon, Wood and Waupaca) in Central Wisconsin. I started shooting wildlife with Nikon Equipment and that is what I use today. Much of my photography is done on lakes and rivers. I shoot from a small kayak to get to out-of-the-way areas. Most of the rest of my photography is done while walking in what I hope are productive areas with my camera gear. Some photography is done from a blind. Since March of 2000, I have been using the Nikon D1 (later the D1H) Digital camera for shooting wildlife. I have not used a film camera since switching to digital photography. Click here for my comments on the D1 & D1H.
I do have concerns about the environment. I have lived long enough to see major changes in the environment of Central Wisconsin. As the population increases, there is a corresponding decrease in the natural landscape. I see this happening around me every day. I hope, in some small way, my images of wildlife will call attention their diminishing habitat. I belong to a couple of organizations that make it their work to try to address these concerns. One is NANPA, thee North American Nature Photography Association. The other is IWLA, the Izaak Walton League of America.
